At A Love 4 Paws, we connect loving families with healthy, well-socialised Exotic Shorthair kittens vet-checked, DNA-tested, and raised in a home environment, not a cage. We ship across the United States.
The Exotic Shorthair is often described as the “lazy man’s Persian” — and that’s meant as a compliment. Bred to carry all the charm, sweetness, and affectionate temperament of the Persian cat, the Exotic Shorthair swaps that famously long coat for a dense, plush, teddy-bear short coat that’s far easier to maintain.
Developed in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s by crossing Persians with American Shorthairs, the Exotic Shorthair was officially recognised by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) in 1967. Today it consistently ranks as one of the most popular pedigree breeds in the country — and it’s easy to see why.
Everything people love about Persians in a coat that practically takes care of itself.
Laid-back cats that adjust well to new environments. They tend to take changes in routine in their stride, which makes settling a new kitten into your home a relatively smooth experience.
Genuinely Affectionate
Bond closely with their families but are generally comfortable being left alone during the day ideal for working adults. Quiet devotion, consistently delivered.
Quiet & Undemanding
Not a vocal breed. They communicate with soft chirps and gentle headbutts rather than persistent meowing perfect if you've been put off by talkative cats.
Family Friendly
Patient and tolerant with children and other pets. Unlikely to scratch or hiss unless seriously provoked, a genuinely safe and gentle family cat.
Apartment-Ready
No need for outdoor access. Exotic Shorthairs are entirely content indoors with enrichment one of the best breeds for city and apartment living.
Playful but Not Hyperactive
Enjoy interactive play but find their own natural pace. Unlike high-energy breeds, they're equally content curled up beside you not demanding constant entertainment.

Prices vary depending on coat colour, pedigree, and lineage. Well-bred Exotic Shorthair kittens from health-tested parents typically range from $1,500 to $5,000+. Current pricing is listed on each individual kitten listing at Charing Cross Cat Clinic.
Yes. We ship kittens safely across the United States. All transport is arranged with the kitten's wellbeing as the priority, and we'll guide you through the process step by step.
Kittens are typically ready to go home at 12–14 weeks of age, once they are fully weaned, vaccinated, and socialised.
No cat is truly hypoallergenic, and Exotic Shorthairs are no exception. Their shorter coat does mean less airborne fur, but they still produce the Fel d 1 protein that most allergy sufferers react to. We recommend spending time with the breed before committing.
Temperament and build are very similar the main difference is coat length. The Persian has a long, flowing coat requiring daily grooming; the Exotic Shorthair has a short, plush coat that's much easier to maintain. The Exotic was essentially developed for people who loved Persians but wanted a lower-maintenance coat.
Generally yes, especially if introduced carefully and at a young age. Their calm, unflappable temperament means they're less likely to be stressed by a dog than many other breeds.
